Weekend Recap

Friday night:

Well, we went out to dinner at place here that makes Kenyan food.  Arty and I shared a meal and Sullivan slept in his car-seat peacefully.  It was nice to get out of the house for a meal since we have been eating at home for most meals.

Saturday:

I did some cleaning and then we went to Sam's Club for some basics (paper-towels, water, big bottles of shampoo and conditioner) and went out to lunch afterwards.  We had Mexican food which is one of my favorite kinds of food.  I always get something small a la carte and eat the yummy chips and salsa.  It was nice out so I took Sullivan in the stroller and did some walking.  It feels so nice to walk outside getting the blood pumping and just breathing fresh non-frozen air in my lungs.

Sunday:

Well, I went and scoped out a church.  It was nice and big and reminded me of church back in Phoenix.  They had a huge coffee bar and hot chocolate bar and everyone gravitated towards that which was fun.  I though the music was really good and Sully seemed to like it.  After the music we spent most of the time in the  "family room" because Sully needed to eat.  There were comfy chairs and books and info on a MOPS group. I am thinking about joining.  I had never really heard of this group before but I am excited to go.  It meets twice a month and childcare is provided.  There is a guest speaker and sometimes you do crafts and meet in small groups.  Since I have mentioned before on this blog that it is hard being at home with a baby in the area of meeting people that I have things in common with.  So then after church I took Sully on another long walk. I also made cookies for Arty's classmates.  I made two kinds of cookies, chocolate chip and snicker-doodles.  I realized that if I ever want to make mass quantities of cookies I need to get another cookie sheet. Well, that's about it for the weekend recap.

We did manage to videotape Sullivan laughing so hard today.  I will upload it tomorrow.  I hope everyone had a great weekend.

Four Months Old Yesterday

I just want to start off by saying that one year ago yesterday I went into the bathroom at work and took a pregnancy test and...two pink little lines never looked so beautiful.  I am so blessed.
P.S. I wrote this post yesterday but finished it today.

Dear Sullivan,
You are four months old today.  Every time I look at you I am so amazed.  I love scooping you up in my arms in the morning and seeing you smile and stretch your arms up over your head.  Playtime is so much fun, you love to make sweet noises and get excited sometimes.  You are such a happy boy.  Today when you were laying in your  play yard I couldn't help but laugh while you swung your arms boxer style at the little parrot that hangs down.  Your little legs were kicking excitedly too.  I love that you still love taking baths, it's something I look forward to everyday.  You light up my life more than I ever imagined possible little one.

Stats:
Weight: 18 Pounds (95th percentile)
Height: 27.3 Inches (97th percentile)
The doctor says you are just a big baby all around :)
She also thinks that your blue eyes are here to stay...we shall see.
And little one, you are getting your first tooth.  The doctor showed me and its coming in on the bottom.  No wonder you have been clamping down on my finger when you put it in your mouth.  Teething toys here we come.
You wear size 3 diapers now and sizes 3, 6, and 9 month clothes depending on the brand.
You are so curious about everything and are constantly turning your head to see things in all directions around you.
I love taking you places...I think you like going to the grocery store and Target with me.
Photo taken in Target 2.23.11
I know that you love to be held oh so much.
And I love carrying you in my arms or in one of the two carriers that I have.
You rolled over this week and it was so exciting.
You have started reaching for things that I am carrying like a banana, a bowl, or a piece of paper.
Baby boy you are learning new things every day...and I feel so special to be here to witness all that you do.
I love you!

Roll Baby Roll

Just three days shy of his fourth month, this sweet boy rolled from belly to back twice in a row for the first time.  It was so cute and both me and Arty were there to see it happen.

To say we are proud would be an understatement.

Sullivan's birth story: Part One

Sullivan's birth story: Part One

It all started on October 22, 2010.  I was 39 weeks pregnant and set to be induced.  I woke up at 5am and took a bath.  Then my mom and I headed over to Einstein’s and met my aunt (aka Tamarino) for a light breakfast.  Then we went to the hospital to get things going at 7am.  I filled out paperwork and had to do a few tests and get hooked up to the monitors.  I was given my first dose of cervadil to soften my cervix around 8:30, then I had to wait in the bed for two hours and then walk around the hospital for an hour.  My mom and I walked the hallways and saw the babies in the nursery.  I was getting so excited.  So at 11:30 my mom had to go and help my brother Stephen get ready for his graduation that started at 2 but he had to be there early.  Tamarino came and sat with me at the hospital while I got the second dose of cervadil.  They had me lay down for a longer time because  my contractions were too close to each other but I finally did get to walk around the halls for only a half hour.  By this time it was past 2pm and it was clear that I was going to miss Stephen’s graduation ceremony.  The nurse checked me and I was dilated 2cm. My doctor said that I was ok to leave the hospital and eat a light meal and to come back at 5pm to start the pitocin.  Tamarino drove me to Stephen’s graduation and we got to see him in his gown and take pictures as the reception was going on.  Then I went with my parents, Tamarino and my Uncle S to Paradise Bakery, at this point it was 3:30.  Afterwards, we went to the house quickly because my mom wanted to pick something up and to take one car to the hospital.  We went back to the hospital and just walked outside until it was 5pm.  I got changed and hooked up to the monitors and my contractions were still going pretty regularly but I was still only 2cm dilated.  The nurse started the pitocin and my doctor called and said she was on her way to break my water.  At 6:45 my water was broken.  Arty (husband) was set to get to Phoenix at 7pm so Uncle S and my dad went to pick him up.  Arty was in West Virginia for dental school already while I stayed in Phoenix with my family and I continued going to appointments with my OB.  Anyway, he got to the hospital around 8.  My contractions were not that painful for a few hours.  My mom, Tamarino, Uncle S, a few family friends, and Arty were in the room with me and at about 10:30 I had a breakdown.  The contractions were really painful and the room was noisy with talking and I just needed a break.  Everyone left the room and I asked the nurse to check me, I couldn’t believe I was only 3cm.  I was tired and just couldn’t relax and the nurse said that the anesthesiologist would take a half hour to get there and then it would be another 30 minutes to have relief.  Arty and I both thought that it was a good idea to make the call for the epidural.  I think it was at 11:30 that the doctor arrived and the whole process to getting the epidural only took about 15 to 20 minutes.  Then around 12 we both fell asleep.  The nurse had me lay on my left side and then a couple hours later she had me lay on my right side.  I remember waking up thinking I had some gas and also thinking my stomach was itchy.  Then the nurse walked in at 3 am and said that my doctor was on the phone and wanted to know my progress.  She checked me and I was at nine centimeters!  I remember being so excited and also nervous about the pushing since I didn't take any classes.  The nurse told me she was going to let me labor down some.  The sensation I was feeling could only be described as a "gas like" feeling.  The pressure started building and I knew that my body was ready to start pushing.  My mom went and got the nurse.  It was 4:30 am, the nurse walked in and got some things set up.  She told me we were going to start pushing to a certain point and that my doctor was on her way.

Part two coming soon...

Embrace The Camera 2.17.11

Thursday is here so that means it's time for embrace the camera!

Today, Sullivan and I went on a walk and visited Arty (Hubby) at dental school and then we walked to Starbucks for an iced coffee.  I can't believe, being from Arizona I think that 66 degrees is warm!

Then we played!

Bob Revolution Seat Cover & a Little of This & That

I have been wanting to make this stroller seat cover for a while now and I finally got around to it.  I've only used the stroller twice so far.  Once when Sully was a few weeks old I wanted to try going around the block with him in it and I ended up carrying him with one arm while pushing the stroller with the other.  The other time was today, and to my delight he didn't mind it.  However, I kept peeking in the over head window and he was wide awake the whole time.  This baby is so alert, he just loves looking around.  So here is my make shift Bob stroller seat cover.  It has two layers of fabric and a water proof pad inside.  For my first one I think it turned out well.

I am thinking of making more of these.  Do you think anyone would buy it if I sold it on etsy?

Sully and I went on a walk over the weekend and I took a few pictures from that little outing.  We walked to the university's football stadium and did a couple laps around the outside of it.

AND I climbed this monster staircase very carefully.

The view from the top.

This is what Sully looked like after the walk just hanging out in his car-seat for a minute.

My Constant Companion

I don't know about you but all day I walk around chatting with my baby.
I don't hold back, oh no-sir I just say whatever I'm thinking...only the nice stuff of course.  Before having Sullivan I don't think I ever realized that I was having a constant internal dialog with myself.
For example, in the morning I'll tell Sully "good morning, it's time to make coffee" and "momma's going to go change your diaper now."
I also find myself giving Sully a  rundown of our to-do list in the car like,
"first we are going to the grocery store so momma has something yummy to make for dinner, and then we are going to go home and play, then you will take a little nap, and momma will do some cleaning."
The best though is when we are out and about in stores and I'll narrate the experience for him.  He's my companion, and so I like to include him and make sure he knows what's going on...ha!  Yes, people do look at me when I'm talking to my little mister man, I'm not sure what they are thinking when they see us but I really don't care.  We are having fun and that's all that matters.

Do you talk to your babies all the time too? It's so much better than talking to yourself :-)

The Pillow

Introducing the pillow I made.
Actually just the cover.  So I found a two pack of throw pillows on sale at Tarjay for $3, the fabric I found at Ikea for $1.99/yard, and the buttons were just something I had on hand.

Now, this pillow doesn't go in Sully's crib I just put it there because turquoise and orange are my all time favorite color combo.

And here is the little mister...I think he likes the pillow.

Sullivan's Nursery

I haven't posted pictures of Sullivan's nursery yet so here it is!

Fish Flensted Mobile...so cute.
*See that cute little boy sitting and checking out his room

Well, that's about it for the nursery.  We rent a townhouse so we just kept the walls white.  This room is one of my favorites in the house.  I made the crib bumper and the sheets with the help of my mom and even Arty.  I also made the pillow on the chair this week.  More pictures of that still to come.

Beauty Secrets

So Kelly over at Kelly's Korner posted a fun linky party about what her daily beauty secret's are and so I though I would join in on the fun.

1.  I wake up and use this oil cleanser by Shu Uemera.  The smell is intoxicating and since the winter is so harsh on skin I find this really soothing.

2.  Then I put on a tinted moisturizer.  I like this one from the Boots brand at Tarjayyy.  Plenty of coverage and I think it just melts right into my skin and totally evens everything out.  Plus SPF!

If I was going to put on foundation it would definitely be this one by Benefit.  The lady at Sephora told me that  this makeup adjusts to your skin color no matter if its in the dead of winter or the peak of summer and...SHE WAS RIGHT!  One foundation all year...I'm IN.

3.  I LOVE like make up and I have alot of it.

Its hard to say what type of makeup I put on next.  Usually, I curl my eyelashes with this.
And then I brush some of this on my eyelashes.

Favorite eyeshadow...super sheer colors with lots of sparkle. It's called Starry Eyed baked eyeshadow by Lorac.

Then I may put on some bronzer or blush.  I like the bronzer that comes in the blockbuster kit from Sephora because it doesn't have shimmer in it.

Face Powder...I really like this one by Benefit.  You can't even see it, which is why I like it.

My favorite chapstick has to be this one by Fresh.  Oh my!! It feels amazing.  I have tried just about everything and this one is by far my fav.
Lipgloss hands down is Sugar Cookie By Bare Minerals.  Impressive because its not sticky at all, tastes yummy and is a great color.

Ok, that's about it!  I would love to hear about everyone's tips and favorite beauty secrets.
