Crafts and such

I've been making stuff lately.  It's become my late night indulgence.  I know that there are so many of these yarn wrapped wreaths out there but I think mine turned out really well.  I love the felt flowers.

I used fabric paint and freezer paper to make this adorable little shirt with my little guys name on it.  I am going to make so many more things this way.  It was so much fun. :)

I used the same method for this long-sleeved onesie.

I love this one!

In other news Sullivan decided that he only needs one nap a day and that it can only be for 30 or so minutes.  The good news is that he sleeps 5-6 hours straight at night before he wakes up for the first time.  I can't tell you how good two or three hours of uninterrupted sleep feels.  Its been so rainy here the last few days but I'm hoping this weekend we can get some nice weather!  I'm not ready to say goodbye to nice weather until the spring!

Sleep Training Night One

We made it.  Here is the rundown:
7:30pm bathtime
8:00pm bed
9:00pm woke up crying and standing in crib, cried for 35 minutes(I was so close to going in and holding him...those were the longest minutes of my life)
10:30pm woke up crying for 5 minutes
2:56am woke up and cried for ten minutes
6:36am woke up for the morning

This is where things started to get out of whack.  I nursed him and there was ALOT of milk because I didn't feed him at night.  He just kept drinking and I noticed that he had a little bit of a runny nose.  I cancelled our play-date due to the runny nose and went on with our morning.  Well, an hour after I fed him he vomited all over me and all over himself twice, my thoughts ran wild and guilt rushed in.  I immediately thought that he ate too much too fast and it upset his stomach so I stripped him down and we both hopped in the bath and I cradled him in my arms.  Almost instantly he fell asleep.  So I splashed the warm water on him and got him toweled off and went downstairs.  I had him wrapped in a soft towel and didn't bother with the diaper because he was sleeping so I just held him and let him nap.  When he woke up he didn't want to be put down so I strapped him in the ergo we went for a walk to Starbucks.  I figured the fresh air would do us good, or me good so I could clear my mind and get some perspective.  When we got back home the diarrhea started and my heart sunk.  I called the doctors office and we went in.  The virdict?  He has a cold and we just have to ride it out.  This means that there will be no sleep training for at least a week.  This means that the torture of last night was all for nothing because I'll just have to start over!  I hope tomorrow Sully feels better and more himself.  Right now he's snuggled up in his crib but you can bet as soon as I hear a peep from him I am going in and calming him down tonight.

Sleep Training Moms on Call Style

Last night I felt like I got run over by a truck.  Seriously, I woke up in not such a great mood because I was getting kicked and pushed in the bladder by a sweet baby boy for what seemed like hours.  Something finally just clicked and I decided that I need help with this sleep situation because he's only going to get stronger. I have seen countless bloggers rave about moms on call so I broke down and got more information.  Tonight is night one of three that is supposed to get your baby sleeping in their crib all night.  They said it will just get easier and easier after those first three nights.  I have shed tears over this because part of me loves going in Sully's room and rescuing my him when he cries.  Let me just say that I hate hate hate hearing him cry so this is not going to be easy for me at all.  The irrational part of me thinks that when he finally does sleep through the night it will be another sign that he is growing up and is not such a baby anymore.  We'll see how this goes.  I'll update tomorrow.

Sleep update and some pictures

Sullivan slept great again in his crib last night on our third night of moving him from our bed to his crib.  I put him in his crib at 7:15ish, he fussed for a few minutes and was fast asleep.  He woke up at 10:30 and I fed him(on just one side) and put him back in the crib, then he woke up at 1:00am and I fed him (both sides) put him in his crib and he did fuss a little.  But the best part is that he slept until 5:30.  The past two nights he had been waking up at 3am and then again around 5:30, so he skipped the 3am wake up (yay!).   I did feed him and he slept for another hour when he woke up today.

And for the last two days he has only had two naps per day.  He usually has three so maybe he is so refreshed from sleeping in the crib that he doesn't need that third nap.  Who knows??

Here are some sweet pictures from this morning.
Happy boy!

This week he started doing a beginning version of the army crawl.  Soooo cute to watch.

Co-sleeping to crib transition: Day 2

I was amazed last night that Sully fell asleep in his crib without crying once.  We did our bedtime routine, I placed him in the crib and went downstairs with the video monitor.  The husband and I just watched in awe as he rolled around for about ten minutes and fell asleep.  He woke up four times for quick feedings and each time went back to the crib without a problem.  Tonight, I put him in the crib and ten minutes later he was asleep.  Seriously, this is amazing for a baby that never napped or really slept in his crib for more than 20 minutes.  I don't mind waking up to feed him, especially since he stays sleepy and goes back in the crib without crying.

How it went

I am so impressed with how Sullivan slept in his crib.  He woke up 4 times, each time he wasn't fully awake because his eyes were still closed, he was just rolling around making noises.  Three of the times I nursed him for five minutes and put him back in the crib and he fell right back asleep without crying.  The other time I just held him for a few minutes and put him back in the crib and he stayed asleep.  I thought the night would be much worse and was pleasantly surprised!  Night one was a success.

Co-sleeping to crib transition: Day 1

Sullivan has slept right next to me for the last six months and tonight we are trying out the crib.  It's 8:10 here and he is currently sleeping and has been for about 30 minutes.  It took him twenty minutes to fall asleep.  Our routine was bath time, book, I nursed him and kissed him and put him in his crib.  He cried for ten minutes and I went up and patted his belly and told him I love him (he stopped crying), but then started again for another ten minutes and has been asleep since.  I need to muster up all the strength I have to make this work because I love our cuddles but I know the older he gets the harder this transition will be for everyone.  Let's see how day one of sleep training goes.

P.S. Any advice would be appreciated!

Sleeping Baby 1.4.10

Check out those eyelashes.  They keep getting longer and they are so dark.  LOVE them.
These baby hands just send me over the moon with happiness.  I kiss those little wrists and hands countless times during the day.  He also likes to grab my hair sometimes! When I'm nursing him one hand usually migrates to my chest while the other grabs lightly at my side and back...and most of the time his eyes are fixed on me and when I look down at him I fall deeper in love.
He's getting a little bit of a wave in his hair, cute!

My Thoughts for Today

I can't tell you how many times a day I think to myself,  I hope I remember...(fill in the blank) or make a note that he just did (something adorable).  Sullivan has totally rocked my world and changed the way I look at time.  I want to remember everything, especially the small things. For example, right now he is curled up next to me in bed making sweet noises while he dreams, his eyes are flickering and his little fist is balled up under his chin and resting on my chest.  And I know that he will never be this small again.  This is a special moment and each day is filled with so many of them its impossible to write them all down,  I am just scared I'll forget.  It seems like almost every mom that stops me while we're out to ask how old he is says that they forgot how small babies are, because they grow so fast.  I hope that's not me one day.
Here he is on Christmas morning just stretching on our bed,,,he's wearing a sleep gown that my brother and I wore when we were babies.  My mom saved our clothes so he has some vintagy (probably not a word) things to wear.
I just had to have a picture of his sweet legs and little piggies...don't mind my leg.  PS I don't love how my leg looks when its crossed...Ha
Here he is on New Years Eve.  I love that tummy and those cheekers!
Tomorrow is Sully's belated two month appointment so I will write a post with his stats.
