Sleep Training Night One

We made it.  Here is the rundown:
7:30pm bathtime
8:00pm bed
9:00pm woke up crying and standing in crib, cried for 35 minutes(I was so close to going in and holding him...those were the longest minutes of my life)
10:30pm woke up crying for 5 minutes
2:56am woke up and cried for ten minutes
6:36am woke up for the morning

This is where things started to get out of whack.  I nursed him and there was ALOT of milk because I didn't feed him at night.  He just kept drinking and I noticed that he had a little bit of a runny nose.  I cancelled our play-date due to the runny nose and went on with our morning.  Well, an hour after I fed him he vomited all over me and all over himself twice, my thoughts ran wild and guilt rushed in.  I immediately thought that he ate too much too fast and it upset his stomach so I stripped him down and we both hopped in the bath and I cradled him in my arms.  Almost instantly he fell asleep.  So I splashed the warm water on him and got him toweled off and went downstairs.  I had him wrapped in a soft towel and didn't bother with the diaper because he was sleeping so I just held him and let him nap.  When he woke up he didn't want to be put down so I strapped him in the ergo we went for a walk to Starbucks.  I figured the fresh air would do us good, or me good so I could clear my mind and get some perspective.  When we got back home the diarrhea started and my heart sunk.  I called the doctors office and we went in.  The virdict?  He has a cold and we just have to ride it out.  This means that there will be no sleep training for at least a week.  This means that the torture of last night was all for nothing because I'll just have to start over!  I hope tomorrow Sully feels better and more himself.  Right now he's snuggled up in his crib but you can bet as soon as I hear a peep from him I am going in and calming him down tonight.

Momma loves you Sully!  We'll conquer sleeping in the crib another time pumpkin!

  2. That is so awful! I'm so sorry you had to endure that, all for nothing! Hopefully he starts feeling better. Do they say that you can't go in his room at all?? We had to sleep train my son again, but he's 13 months old. When he cries, we go in, lay him back down, cover him up, tell him we love him, and leave. It reassures him enough that he only cries for 2-3 minutes. I've heard people say to go in every 10 minutes, and that it only takes a few days for them to learn to soothe themselves back to sleep. Good luck, mama. In my opinion, sleep training is one of the hardest things to do as a parent, but its worth it in the end.

  4. Sorry Megan!!! Poor Sully! I am just getting over a cold too! Lowell got sick, had a cold/fever up in Greer with us. The day he and Sally left I started feeling a little throat issue starting. The next day started with congestion, sore throat and ended with a 102 degree fever for me. I was mostly just worried about giving it to Aden but he seems just fine... possibly a little stuffy nose. I had John do some of the feedings with pumped milk during the worst of the fever. I'm glad breastmilk has antibodies for whatever disease I have so he has all the material to fight it off! Anyways, my mom said she thinks when you start the sleep training again it won't be like starting anew... she thinks he will have a memory of it and will be able to soothe himself quicker this time. My mom, Aden and I are headed over to Scottsdale later today for a whisper (hopefully), some modern burger salads, and some HM tank tops. Miss you and wish you were here!!!

    that's so hard!!!
I would say wait until a year old, just because that is when my brother in law did it and had success with 4 out of 5 of their kids. the 5th was the baby of the family and they lost the battle with her because she was the baby of the family...hope he is better soon so you can try again, but I say whatever works for you, is what you should do! hugs to YOU!
